Aaiko Fused with M.V by Michelle Verwiel in Kenya!

With Aaiko's interest in the "Coarse" collection, and their interest in Africa as an inspiration for their Spring/Summer 2012 collection, I have put together some moodboards to create the feel of the two brands fused together. Enjoy!

Be inspired... Aaiko's Autumn/Winter 2012

I am shadowing the PR department at Aaiko this first week. Currently I am creating moodboards and working with inspirations surrounding the Autumn/Winter 2012 collection. The collection is inspired by the film Ëasy Virtue". The romantic touch of the twenties molds the new collection; plisse dresses, fake fur coats, and high waist trousers create the look. The focus on femininity is heightened in the collection through some of the key items such as coats, dresses and knitwear. Here are a few moodboards to allow you to get better acquainted with the themes, colors, textures and patters of the autumn/winter collection.

Internship at Aaiko, Amsterdam

During my few weeks on holiday in the Netherlands I was fortunate to have made the contact with Pauline Brakenhoff, founder and designer of a fantastically unique brand called Aaiko. After having created Treasures Zine my interest in the publishing industry has grown immensely. My mothers friend, Marie-Jose Dolleman, sent me Aaiko's magazine as inspiration for Treasures Zine, and I can surely say that it influenced my work greatly. Aaiko's magazine has a very clean and simple layout which effectively communicates the brands message, "The World is your Oyster". The magazine's clean layout inspired me to keep the page designs crisp and to the point with few images and a straight-forward interview with every artist. I was drawn to this catch phrase as it similarly represents what Treasures is all about too. Aaiko has great interest in venturing around the world to explore talent and unique art, as does Treasures Zine. After having successfully completed Treasures I decided to get in touch with Pauline as I started becoming more interested in Aaiko, the brand, and keen to do an internship with them. With only two weeks in the Netherlands, the internship has begun and so far has already welcomed me with open arms.

Aaiko is created by Pauline Brakenhoff in 2005. Because of her formal job as a stylist, she was very well aware of the needs in the market for feminine clothing and what was missing in this dynamic sector.

Aaiko means beloved in Japanese and strong in Germanic. This Dutch brand is founded in Amsterdam and quickly gained popularity because of its feminine and refined looks combined with unique details.

Intended for the young independent and fashion-conscious woman, Aaiko can be best described as a original brand with a designers touch. The label anticipates on the question to high-quality clothing.

Kosmopolitan and adventurous, the garments have something unforeseeable, a twist. The details are well-considered and the fabrics varied. Every collection offers a wide variety of designs, from luxury eveningwear till casual city chic.

Originally from the Netherlands, but with influences from all over the world, Aaiko offers you the elements to create your own style.
